Abstract

Habituation is widely recognised as a method of moral formation in Islamic education, yet most studies on it are qualitative, and the contribution of routine classical-text (kitab) study to students' akhlak in pesantren-based junior high schools has rarely been measured. This study aims to analyse the effect of habituating the study of the Budi Luhur kitab on the akhlak of seventh-grade students at SMP Plus Hidayatul Mubtadi'in, Kembang, Singosari. It used a quantitative correlational design with all 40 seventh-grade students as respondents. Data were collected through a Likert-scale questionnaire whose items were valid (r-count > r-table = 0.312) and highly reliable (α = 0.953), and analysed using simple linear regression in SPSS 25. The results show that habituation of Budi Luhur kitab study has a positive and significant effect on students' akhlak (p < 0.05), with the regression equation Y = −6.846 + 1.151X; each one-point increase in habituation is associated with a 1.151-point increase in akhlak. The findings indicate that routine kitab study functions not merely as knowledge transfer but as a habituation mechanism that bridges moral knowledge and everyday behaviour.
