Abstract

Teacher-centred instruction still dominates Islamic Religious Education (PAI) in many primary schools. Studies on mind mapping in PAI have mostly measured its effect on achievement in secondary and higher education, while little is known about how it is planned, enacted, and linked to value internalisation in primary schools under the Merdeka Curriculum. This study aims to describe the planning, implementation, and outcomes of mind mapping in PAI learning on the topic of infaq and sadaqah for sixth-grade students at SDN Tunggulwulung 3, Malang. It employed a qualitative case study design; data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, analysed using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña interactive model, and validated through triangulation. Planning comprised a teaching module, cognitive and psychomotor assessment instruments with a minimum mastery criterion of 85, an observation sheet, and mapping materials. Implementation moved from teacher explanation and independent reading to group map construction, presentation, and value integration through charity activities. The number of students reaching mastery rose from 12 to 20 of 22, and students reported greater enjoyment and understanding. The study shows that mind mapping is most meaningful when cognitive mapping is coupled with value enactment.
