Abstract

Moral decline among children is often linked to weak religious education in the family. Previous studies have mostly read QS. al-Ahqaf 15 as a text on filial piety (birr al-walidayn) or included it in broad thematic surveys, while verses 15–16 have rarely been read as a whole through a single tafsir to reveal their educational structure. This study aims to analyse the educational values in QS. al-Ahqaf 15–16 according to Wahbah al-Zuhaili's Tafsir al-Munir and their relevance to children's education. It employed qualitative library research with content analysis of the verses and Tafsir al-Munir as primary sources, compared with Tafsir al-Misbah and related literature. Verse 15 contains four values: kindness to parents grounded in the mother's sacrifice, gratitude to Allah and to parents at maturity, righteous deeds, and prayer for the righteousness of one's offspring accompanied by repentance. Verse 16 adds the acceptance of good deeds, forgiveness, the promise of paradise, and certainty in God's promise. Together, the verses portray education as a lifelong, intergenerational cycle in which a child who receives care grows into an adult who gives thanks and educates the next generation, motivated by hope rather than fear.
