Abstract

Qur'anic learning centres (TPQ) are expected to shape children's character, yet most focus on Qur'an reading, while studies of Bulūgh al-Marām have examined its use for teaching jurisprudence rather than for cultivating children's conduct. This study aims to describe the implementation of moral education through the hadiths of the Chapter of Manners (Bāb al-Adab) of Bulūgh al-Marām at TPQ Al-Usman, Singosari, Malang, its supporting and inhibiting factors, and its outcomes. It employed a qualitative case study using participant observation, interviews, and documentation, with interactive analysis and triangulation. Twelve hadiths on manners were taught through short lectures, habituation, and modelling, and were grouped into conduct towards God, towards others, and towards oneself. Implementation was supported by students' willingness and parental and teacher encouragement, but hindered by emotional instability, peer influence, a shortage of teachers, and parents' limited religious knowledge. Students showed gradual changes in worship discipline, courtesy, and table manners, shifting from external prompting to self-initiated conduct. The study suggests that concrete hadiths on manners can serve as a behavioural curriculum for children's moral education.
