Publication Ethics

Publication Ethics

KASBI: Jurnal Ekonomi Syariah is a peer-reviewed journal published by the Islamic Economics Study Program, Institut Agama Islam KH. Ahmad Hasyim Muzadi. This statement sets out the ethical standards expected of everyone involved in the publication process: editors, reviewers, authors, and the publisher. It refers to the Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Duties of Editors

  1. Publication Decisions. The Editor in Chief decides which submitted manuscripts are published, based on their scholarly merit, originality, relevance to the journal’s scope, and the reviewers’ recommendations, while observing legal requirements on libel, copyright, and plagiarism.
  2. Fair Play. Editors evaluate manuscripts solely on their intellectual content, regardless of the authors’ race, gender, religion, ethnic origin, nationality, institutional affiliation, or political views.
  3. Confidentiality. Editors do not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, and the editorial board.
  4. Conflicts of Interest. Unpublished material in a submitted manuscript must not be used in an editor’s own research without the author’s written consent. Editors withdraw from handling manuscripts in which they have a conflict of interest.
  5. Handling Misconduct. Editors respond to any allegation of misconduct, such as plagiarism, data fabrication, or duplicate publication, by investigating it and taking proportionate action, including publishing a correction or retracting the article.

Duties of Reviewers

  1. Contribution to Editorial Decisions. Reviews help editors make decisions and help authors improve their manuscripts.
  2. Promptness. A reviewer who feels unqualified to review a manuscript, or cannot complete the review on time, should inform the editor and decline the invitation.
  3. Confidentiality. Manuscripts under review are confidential documents and must not be shown to or discussed with others without the editor’s authorization.
  4. Objectivity. Reviews must be objective. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate, and reviewers should express their views clearly with supporting arguments.
  5. Acknowledgment of Sources. Reviewers should point out relevant published work that the authors have not cited, and alert the editor to any substantial similarity or overlap with other published work they are aware of.
  6. Conflicts of Interest. Reviewers must not review manuscripts in which they have a conflict of interest arising from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships with the authors or institutions involved.

Duties of Authors

  1. Reporting Standards. Authors present an accurate account of the research and an objective discussion of its significance. Data must be represented accurately. Fabricated or falsified data and knowingly inaccurate statements are unethical and unacceptable.
  2. Originality and Plagiarism. Authors ensure that their work is entirely original and that any use of others’ words or ideas is properly cited. Plagiarism in any form is unethical and unacceptable.
  3. Multiple or Concurrent Publication. Authors must not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal at the same time, or publish substantially the same research in more than one journal.
  4. Acknowledgment of Sources. Authors properly acknowledge the work of others and cite publications that influenced the reported research.
  5. Authorship. Authorship is limited to those who made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the study. The corresponding author ensures that all co-authors have approved the final version and agreed to its submission.
  6. Use of AI Tools. Generative AI tools may not be listed as authors. Authors who use such tools for language editing or other assistance must disclose this in the manuscript and remain fully responsible for its content.
  7. Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest. Authors disclose any financial or other conflict of interest that might influence the results or their interpretation, and state all sources of research funding.
  8. Fundamental Errors. If authors discover a significant error in their published work, they must promptly notify the editor and cooperate to correct or retract the article.
