Plagiarism Policy
Plagiarism Policy
KASBI: Jurnal Ekonomi Syariah is committed to upholding academic integrity and does not tolerate plagiarism in any form. Plagiarism is the act of using another person’s ideas, words, data, or work, including the author’s own previously published work, without proper acknowledgment, and presenting it as one’s own.
Forms of Plagiarism
- Direct Plagiarism: copying text from another source word for word without quotation marks and citation.
- Paraphrasing Plagiarism: rewording another person’s ideas or sentences without citing the original source.
- Mosaic Plagiarism: combining phrases or ideas from several sources into one text without proper citation.
- Self-Plagiarism: reusing substantial parts of one’s own previously published work without citing it, including submitting the same research to more than one journal.
- Idea and Data Plagiarism: using another person’s research ideas, findings, data, tables, or figures without permission or acknowledgment.
- Translation Plagiarism: translating another person’s work from one language into another and presenting it as original work without citation.
Plagiarism Screening
Every manuscript submitted to KASBI is checked using plagiarism detection software (Turnitin or equivalent) before it is sent for peer review, and checked again after revision before publication. The maximum similarity index accepted is 25%, with no more than 3% from a single source. The similarity percentage is not the only consideration: the editor also examines the context and pattern of the matching text.
Actions Before Publication
- Similarity index ≤ 25%: the manuscript proceeds to peer review.
- Similarity index > 25%: the manuscript is returned to the author for revision and may be resubmitted after the similarity has been reduced.
- Clear evidence of deliberate or extensive plagiarism: the manuscript is rejected, and the author may be barred from submitting to KASBI for a certain period.
Actions After Publication
If plagiarism is found in a published article, the editor will investigate the case in accordance with COPE guidelines. If plagiarism is confirmed, the article will be retracted. The article page will remain online but be clearly marked as “Retracted”, stating the reason for retraction, and the author’s institution may be notified.
